HMS Anchusa was a Royal Naval sloop that operated in home waters. Leaving Loch Swilly in Donegal, northern Ireland, on 14th July, 1918 she screened a homeward bound convoy before being sent to join the search for a German submarine reported to be in the area. This proved to be a fruitless mission and she was heading back to Loch Swilly, when, in the early hours of 16th July she was hit by two torpedoes fired from the German submarine U-54. She broke up and sank rapidly, going under in just two minutes, the boilers exploding as she sank. 79 members of her crew of around 100 lost their lives in this incident, on of them being Ambrose Rollin.
